Timothy L. Towell

Over the years, former U.S. Ambassador to Paraguay and Director of Africa for the Peace Corps Timothy L. Towell has shared expertise on foreign affairs through a number of conferences and articles in American media publications. In January 2000, Timothy Towell contributed a piece to The Washington Post concerning terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Titled “Weapons against terrorism,” Timothy L. Towell’s piece outlines the state of terrorism in Pakistan and its impact upon such neighboring countries as India. In the end, Timothy Towell urges the U.S. to join with India and declare Pakistan a terrorist state, thus placing increased pressure on Pakistan to reform. In addition, Timothy L. Towell published a letter on Pakistan in a January 2002 issue of The Washington Post and earned featured coverage for his nomination as a U.S. Ambassador in the New York Times.

After his career in the U.S. State Department, Timothy Towell joined the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies as a council member, during which time he has participated on numerous panel discussions. Timothy L. Towell recently attended the 2009 Atlantic Council Awards Dinner, and introduced a resolution to curb trucking pollution along the Mexico/U.S. border at the 2009 Wild Foundation World Wilderness Congress. He also provides regular donations to the Peace Parks Club and sits on the Advisory Council at AmCham Cuba. A member of the Board of Directors and former Vice President of the Council of American Ambassadors, Timothy L. Towell has served as mentor to promising student recipients of the organization’s fellowship program.

Highly regarded for three decades of service to the U.S. State Department, Timothy L. Towell earned the department’s Superior Honor Award. A longtime resident of Washington, D.C., Timothy L. Towell has been President of the Foreign Policy Group since 1995.
